Christmas was Merry and Gay!
The Sunday before Christmas we held our annual party. Towards the end there were just two couples left, and Gayteen’s Nan sitting quietly in the corner, listening to the chatter. Although we think that Nan has a pretty good idea that Gayteen is that way inclined, it has never actually been spoken of or referred to. Until that moment.
One of the couples, Mike and Oz, began discussing a mutual friend, who had been delighted to discover that her teenage son was gay. The talk turned to fixing up Gayteen with said son, and otherwise searching for a boyfriend for him. Poor Nan continued to sit quietly in the corner, but the cat was well and truly out of the bag!
Christmas with three boys is always fun. Traditional stockings are part of our festivities, opened on our bed of course, even though the “boys” are 22, 20 and 16. Standard stocking stuffers for the elder two; nail varnish and false eyelashes amongst the goodies for Gayteen – so much more fun to buy for! Gay romcom DVDs make a nice change from the blood and gore of his brothers’ choices too.
His gifts also included a make-up mirror with lights around the rim from his other grandparents – they know how much he loves to experiment with new looks. And one of his brothers bought him a couple of rings – a black star and a huge, beautiful heart shape in blue glass.
